Isidor Briar Durant

Isidor's family are a family of scholars and pride themselves on this fact. There are plenty of family traditions that must be upheld, including being open to help those who come looking for knowledge.

Despoin, the family business, covers a wide range of fields including security, medicine, scientific research, culture and heritage. They will often fund, help connect or become shareholders of other companies.

As soon as she's in town, Isidor's family will make sure it becomes common knowledge to those involved relevant fields. Looking for something or just curious? Pen in an appointment with her secretary.
heirtothedragonsfire: (Manager)
The virtues of strong foundations have never been lost on Isidor. An old family can only grow to be as old as hers with strong beginnings that were carefully tended to. For an earth mage it's particularly easy to see the limitless reasons to make a start as strong as possible. Which is why Isidor makes it a point to check in on those newly settling into IRIS. It's a careful balance, to be more than a contact for mundane tasks, to be a manager, the person on top, but still accessible. Checking in on residents is by far the easiest of her tasks.

Sariss had intrigued her. The request for a simple workspace was a little surprising: Logically it made perfectly good sense, but Sariss came across as too... ambitious for 'basic research amenities'. Perhaps it was just Isidor projecting, but people with such an exceptionally high standard for her appearance and demeanour were either very stuck in their ways or looking to carve out the new normal. The former didn't tend to pique Isidor's interest as much as Sariss did.

Although there's no real need to, Isidor knocks on the door before flashing her card over the access panel and opening the door. It rarely hurts to be polite. She stops just inside of the doorway.

"How are you settling in?"

heirtothedragonsfire: (Privately tired)
The more life throws at Isidor Durant the stronger she becomes. That’s the bargain she imagines she made with the universe. The promise. It can throw whatever it likes at her but it better be careful, because she will overcome it, and she will be stronger for it. One day, if it wasn’t careful, the universe was going to find itself dealing with a mage who wouldn’t flinch at the trials it had in store.

Today, however, Isidor was gaunt. Her frustration at being unable to dive right back into martial training or magic practice was tempered by her innate tiredness. A fatigue that had settled in her bones. Between her body’s new limits and her doctor’s careful guidelines, Isidor couldn’t keep up her usual bright fire and fury. It left her bored and bothered, with a thousand plans and ideas and no energy to enact them. Planning was fine, to an extent, but this was getting to be too much for her.

As a distraction, she picked up her PINpoint and messaged Harrowheart. Now that she was finally out of the watchful eye of her family and doctor she had a bit of privacy while she took time to ‘rest’.

“You free? I finally have time to myself.”

Message sent, she flopped back onto the couch, snuggling into her hoodie. Complete with yoga pants, thick socks and a messy bun, she’s not the picture of perfection, but she is comfortable.

 ________________

Isidor studies hard and learns quickly. She's the kind of woman who stays up all night studying an entirely unfamiliar topic when the need suddenly arises.
  • Languages - Isidor was raised in a multilingual household, so picking up languages and knowing many has always been normal to her. Currently she speaks six with varying degrees of fluency, including Azerothian Common.
  • Business - Isidor knows her business inside and out, and does her best to keep an eye on her competitors. While her skills lie in negotiation, decision making and leadership, she is also well versed in the financial, logistical and human (client and employee) side of things.
  • Security | Politics - It suits all aspects of her life to be knowledgable in security protocols and developments. She is eternally making efforts to stay up to date on security. She has also carefully studied magical politics, which involves the relationships between families like hers and governments across the world. A great deal of this is devoted to keeping magic hidden from the public eye which, understandably, involves a lot of security.
  • Family | History - Isidor's understanding of history is intrinsically linked to her family. With generations of academics to study the works of, history lessons were intertwined with family lessons. In later years she gained a better understanding of world history, though she lacks knowledge on non-European countries... until she has a need to read into them.
  • Relevant Cultural Traits and Traditions - Over the years, Isidor has picked up a wide variety of cultural information while learning how to be respectful to notable individuals. While she won't know everything about every country, she knows an odd assortment of traditions and cultural quirks.
  • Magic - Isidor has absorbed as much academic magical information as she could get her hands on. She has a wide set of knowledge in regards to commonly, and uncommonly known forms of magic. More importantly, she knows exactly where to go when she wants to find out more on a topic. Niche areas of expertise include: Elemental, possession, banishment, arcane and martial magic.
________________  ________________

Isidor is used to knowing exactly where she stands in society, demanding what she's owed and giving what others deserve. For this reason she tends to scope out where she stands in a social circle before she fully engages in it.
  • Loyal - Isidor is loyal to a fault. It's no secret that her ultimate loyalty is to her family. They are the only ones she will occasionally take a follower role with. Even then, she will go against someone's wishes to protect them, if she thinks she knows what's best (which is quite often). Those who gain her trust and friendship, however, will get an appropriate amount of that ferocious loyalty. She isn't someone you want to mess with, but when she's on your side you won't fail.
  • Leader | Lone Wolf - Isidor craves control, meaning she automatically assumes leadership roles. If she isn't able to be a leader, she works with others only so long as she agrees with their actions and they suit her. She has no qualms in becoming a lone wolf if she disagrees with the rest of a group.
  • Distrustful - No one can be relied on except herself, and her parents. Even those people she cares for deeply are met with barriers she put up a long, long time ago. She finds words unconvincing, and only action and dedication convinces her that anyone is trustworthy.
  • Ruthless - Her intense need to succeed in life, and the tiny number of people she truly cares about, means that she is free to be as ruthless as she needs to be. She will use every weapon at her disposal to get what she wants.
  • Deceptive - It's rare that she feels a need to be deceptive, but she can be quite good at it when she puts her mind to it. Playing up female stereotypes to get information is particularly easy for her, though her pride will often mean she shatters any illusions afterwards for the satisfaction of seeing someone get caught out by her.
  • Pride | Dignity - All her life Isidor has been held to exceptionally high standards. She is expected to be strong and dignified, perfect in every way that matters. This, along with her love of her family, and the backstabbing common in her family's social circles, meant that she developed a strong sense of pride. Isidor cannot afford to be weak, to fail. Most of all, she cannot afford to be wrong. She knows her worth, and will carefully judge whether she's the most important person in the room or whether she should be deferential. But she spends too much effort being right to be at peace with being wrong.
  • Iron Will | Stubborn - The loyalty that is the corner stone of her attitude, as well as her pride make for a strong stubborn streak. Once she has made a decision about something it can be nearly impossible to change her mind, unless she feels she has changed it entirely of her own agency.
  • Intelligent - While she may not be a scholar, Isidor was raised as though she would be, and is incredibly intelligent. Although intelligence has to battle with her pride and temper, the result is a razor sharp wit, keen observation, and an understanding of how to play social situations to her benefit. That is to say nothing of her academic prowess. She isn't a natural genius, but she works incredibly hard for her intelligence.
  • Ferocious Temper - While Isidor is capable of patience, it does have a limit. Isidor's fury is something to avoid at all costs. She is, after all, the Dragon Archon's daughter. And she lives up to her heritage.
  • Big Sister - When dealing with harmless people who need her help, especially those who remind her of her brother, Isidor can sometimes slip into big sister mode. It is possibly the softest a stranger will see her.
________________  ________________

Living the life of a rich, upper class woman, Isidor has avoided poor health but also rigorous physical activity. As a result, her physique is that of a woman who is active as part of her routine, not necessity.
  • General - Above average, but nothing extraordinary.
  • MMA/Self Defence - Isidor's training has incorporated several martial arts, focusing on what works to her strengths and stature. Primarily her training has focused on simply ensuring her own protection and her ability to engage in unarmed combat.
  • Guns - She has limited training in using handguns, with mediocre aim. She can achieve body shots consistently with a clear, still target.
  • Melee Weapons - Isidor's preferred weapon (other than magic) is her tactical axe. Her secondary weapon is a knife, though she is capable of using European straight swords as well. She knows how to fence, but dislikes it.
  • Running - Past an initial burst of speed, Isidor isn't the fastest runner, but she knows how to pace herself to run for longer than someone who hasn't trained/practiced.
  • Climbing - Without magic, Isidor is a mediocre climber, but is calm and confident in her abilities.
  • Swimming - Isidor is a strong swimmer, but has limited endurance which is aggravated by increased stress in large bodies of water.
  • Riding - As is expected for a young woman of her class, Isidor is an accomplished rider, often having taken part in hunts when she was younger. If she gets a mount of the right temperament, she can be quite formidable.
________________  ________________

The vast majority of Isidor's training has been in magic. Her family's expansive history, intimate knowledge, rigorous training, and extensive list of contacts make her uniquely capable as a mage. Although her family has a strict, disciplined lifestyle, dictated by tradition, it gives her the immense advantage of having a body specially made for magic. This means she doesn't tire easily, and can do large amounts of advanced magic before feeling drained. Constant practice also means that her magical endurance is very high.
  • Fundamentals - Including, but not limited to: ward/spell making; summoning light; grounding, basic energy exchanges.
  • Elemental | Fire & Earth - While she is capable of using all four elements in her magic, it is incredibly difficult for her to do anything of note with air or water. She is, however, an exceptionally good fire and earth elemental mage. Fire is her most natural form of magic, and she will usually default to fire magic in a fight.
  • Arcane - This is the basic form of magic she uses on a day to day basis. Force magic (pushing/pulling/attack), shielding, levitation (of objects), are all forms of arcane magic. She is extremely capable in arcane magic but rarely uses it in its most basic form, preferring to use more advanced variations.
  • Pure Magic | Dragonsfire - A form of arcane magic. Using her father's techniques, Isidor can use magic in its purest, 'raw' form. This allows the user to cast intensely powerful magic for minimal energy, allowing them to use it for unusually long periods of time. Most famously used in the form of Dragonsfire, magic in its purest offensive form. For all its power, it is a new form of casting, and is not without its drawbacks. Not all of which are fully known yet.
  • Shielding - An extremely experienced shield caster, Isidor can summon a variety of shields and change their properties on the fly (though not always quickly). E.g. One way/two way projectile shielding, magical or spiritual shielding.
  • Banishment - Isidor has far more experience banishing possessive beings than she'd like. Her experience does not extend to anything as powerful as demons, but she has the core principles down.
  • Summoning - She can summon a limited number of things. Namely an axe and dagger.
  • Divine magic - Calling upon her preferred goddesses (Isis and Hecate), Isidor can channel their power to cast spells. Typically this is used for divination and influencing circumstances. It has a number of other uses but is extremely easily influenced by circumstance and the goddess' realm of influence.
________________  ________________

Regarding a miscellaneous assortment of skills.
  • Driving - An excellent city driver, and good cross country driver. She took advanced lessons with police instructors, and obtained a motorcycle licence.
  • Sailing/Flying - A brief, basic sailing course a long time ago, but no real ability with either.
  • Lockpicking - She knows basic lockpicking suited primarily for handcuffs
  • Cooking - The few recipes she knows aren't particularly good.
  • Cleaning - She knows how to call for a cleaner and pay them.

If there are any skills/abilities you cannot see listed but are curious about Isidor's capabilities with them, please leave a comment and I will add it.
heirtothedragonsfire: (Planning)
This all happened so fast.

Snow one day, faulty PINpoints the next. At first she was content for them all to carry on as normal. Wait it out. But the snow kept coming, and suppliers kept running out of what they were shopping for. She doesn't remember if it was seeing one too many arguments out on the streets frightening Runa, or the queues going outside the doors of the small medical facilities around the place. If Viatorus was to survive this, she needed to do something. Something big.

So she took over.

Since then she hasn't had much of a chance to stop, to breathe. Harrowheart vanished at some point to look for his family, but she hadn't really gotten a chance to talk to him. And they have so much to talk about.

When she catches his eye on the main floor, she nods her head towards the back door. Where she can grab a coffee from the back kitchen and, when Harrowheart follows her, head upstairs. The small room she's been staying in has a double bed and four single makeshift beds. It's easier this way. To keep people safe, and warm. She leans against the windowsill and sips at the hot coffee while she waits for Harrowheart to appear.
heirtothedragonsfire: (The Dragon's Daughter)
After a small back and forth, Isidor had arranged to meet with Adia (and, she assumed, Caspar) to finally look at a building or two for the research centre. Considering how much more beneficial it was than the thought of Viatorus going anywhere near Micolash again, she had been putting a lot more energy into the project lately. With most of the groundwork started, now is the perfect time to make a few significant decisions.

She waits for Adia and Caspar outside her favourite contender for the research centre. The building is large, a modern architecture of smooth pale stone and glass in geometric shapes that makes it look like a series of boxes carefully assembled together. The only curve is in the front where the main entrance and foyer can easily be seen in the panel of glass that runs up the front of the building, curving outwards.

Isidor is in full battle gear businesswear. Her hair is tied tightly into a ponytail; her makeup is perfect; her heels are high and polished; and her grey dress and black jacket are immaculate. She's waiting outside the building when they arrive, sorting out emails on her phone until she spots them.

She straightens and smiles, tucking her phone away into her bag. "Good morning."

Despite the Archon's reputation for being fierce and unyielding, he and his wife had always taught Isidor that a person should always listen, that they should always know when to act and when to be still. More importantly, he spoke of how humility was a better guide than pride. Although not many would have heard him say it, or guessed he ever would, Isidor had and she remembered it vividly as she walked to Naugus' tower. It was not an easy walk. She was going to the Weatherhills to do something she had little experience with and took no joy in: She was here to admit she was wrong.

As per usual, she is dressed immaculately in a business dress and heels, a choice that ensures she won't have to glare up at Lawrence if he appears, but also means she has to stick to the path. Her reluctance isn't easy to spot with the way she strides into the area the Weatherhills have so expertly transformed. Once she arrives, she scans the area for a familiar face. "Hello?"
heirtothedragonsfire: (Normality)
Though she'd only been around a short time Runa had already made an impact on Viatorus' life. His office was filled with flowers and, more often than not, fresh baking. She'd fearlessly stepped into the Nexus and welcomed his friends, who had in turn welcomed her right back. It was as she was an unstoppable force of boundless optimism. So when she asked Viatorus to come with her to a fair ground it was impossible for him to give her an adequate excuse to get out of it. Not that he particularly wanted to. Even with his thoughts deep in his work the novelty of a fun fair piqued his curiosity. He'd relented and Isidor had stood firm on needing to come along to protect both of them. As with anything, Runa took the idea as if it were her own, continuing the thought that maybe they should invite someone else along to even out the numbers. 'In case there are any games with teams', she'd said.

They had agreed to meet with Harrowheart at Viatorus' office where the scholar then took his friend and his fiancée to his home on his own world. This time it wasn't a mansion, but an apartment, and Isidor was waiting for them. In contrast to Viatorus with his jumper over a shirt and his suit trousers, or Inigrun with her shirt and jumper harking back to older styles, Isidor is wearing the most contemporary clothes of them all. The all black ensemble includes fitted trousers, short heeled boots and a jacket that looks more sleek than warm.

"You look like a bodyguard," Viatorus says to his sister, not bothering to hide his amusement.

"It was only to make you feel better about having a babysitter," she teases as she passes him and he pouts. Walking up to Harrowheart, she looks him up and down and holds up a wooden, flat square box. "I managed to borrow this for the day. So you don't draw any unwanted attention." She tilts her head at him. "Can you grow back your hair?"
